Term 3 Olympic learning

This term I have been  learning about the Olympics and we got to choose an athlete on a special internet website called the NZ Olympic website.

So  we can see a bunch of cool athletes from the Olympic website. I chose a cool boy and his name is Dylan Schmidt and he is 19 years old and his sport is trampoline gymnastics. The Olympics is a very special moment of the year and it happens every 4 years then a few years to practice then it goes on again. The Olympics starts at the 5th of August ever year. In the Olympics there are 5 things also named as the 5 Values. The 5 values are Excellence, support, friend ship, difference and determination.

It has been the Olympics and wow the Untied states and Japan had a tie of the same amount of medals Hungary and Australia also got the same amount of medals they both got three medals.  Argentina,Belgium,Vietnam, Russia, and Thailand all got one medal in the Olympics. South Korea got 2 medals. In the swimming Olympics that was on Sunday  In the Morning at about 6 something the United states and Australia one of them I think the united states won. I went for Australia because my sister is there and she lived there I would of gone for NZ but I don't think any of NZ were there.

Here is some information about my athlete:
The first trampoline in the Olympics was built by George Nissen. Did you know that In the Olympics people had drugs so they could cheat in the Olympics?
Dylan has only won 1 silver medal and he was also the first trampoline to go in Olympics and it was Dylan’s first time at and in the Olympics. In the Olympics you can only do 10 different moves or 17 if you want to. Something that challenged me was finding Information about the Olympics. The part that was tricky was putting my information in my own words once I found the information.
I learnt that In the Olympics they have something called the Olympic torch. Also I learnt that they have something called the Paralympics and that is for people that have spinal cord Injures.

Totara Elephant perspective

In tortara Whaunau again we are doing more art and I chose a really cool art that involves an Elephant. The items we are using are acrylic paint and water color paint first we have to make a background but only using water color paint ONLY!!!  We just have to use different colors and do nice colours that blend but not to big and fat. After we have done out background we have to get a big piece of paper and draw a Big Elephant in pencil ONLY   Then when we have finished drawing the Elephant we get Acrylic paint and make a grey color and paint the Elephant grey. After we finally finish the Elephant you leave your background in water color out to dry and  wait patiently. When our Background is dry we can cut out the Elephant carefully but you can only cut the Elephant when it is dry. When it is dry then Cut it out. When your Elephant and your background are both dry get PVA glue not a hot glue then stick your elephant on your background. When you have done that  In the background draw a mini tree and a mini elephant. Something that challenged me in my art was getting the colors mixed up and to blend them in together. Also In our learning we are doing our noticing muscle I used the noticing muscle when I noticed that I needed to redo my background because it looked stripey and that is my revising muscle too. If I could go back and do my background again I would make it purple pink and blue.

Here is my background

Tortara Matariki Hand games

In tortara we have been learning about Matariki in different ways of learning.
Matariki is all about the Maori new year.

Matariki is very important for anyone even if their not Maori. Lots of people do special things for Matariki like festivities. We learnt the names of the seven sisters also named as the Seven Stars. The seven sisters are seven stars in the sky at night on Matariki. The names of the Seven sisters are Tupu-a-rangi , Matariki , Tupu-a-nuku , Waiti ,Waita , Unu-a-rangi and Tupu-a-rangi. They are the names of seven stars or seven sisters.
Tortara whaunau learnt a lot about Matariki. On Matariki a lot of people celebrate by having delicious hangis. Matariki starts in June.
It was Matariki and so Toratara had Maori people from the Maori dance club of Matarki come and teach us some really cool Maori hand games. First thing they said was KIA ORA!!! of course that was like their favorite word to say. So one of the Maori hand games we played were knuckle bones and the Maori word for knuckle bones were Koruru.
The other Maori game was hand games and one of them was called he hipi toi toi. He hipi toi toi is a cool game were you only need 2 people and your hands if you tipe up He hipi toi toi you can learn how to play it. The other game was called Tu Tama that is just the same as He hipi toi toi. The other game is hand string games they were pretty cool. The string games were you like make designs with string using your hands. We made a Waka is the Maori name for a canoe. Another thing we made were called the 2 diamonds the 2 diamonds is were we have a outside of the string then we have a shape of the 2 diamonds inside of them but that was pretty hard and I had to use my persevernace learning muscle. Those were some of the Maori games we played. My favorite game
was probably the Knuckle bones.
Something that challenged me was doing the 2 diamonds in the string hand games.  A lot of things challenged me the games like the string games and the knuckle bones. The learning muscle I stretched to get out of the learning pit was my noticing muscle I noticed that my waka wasn't right so I went up and asked for help. Also I used my collaboration muscle Nevaveh was stuck so I went to help I loved doing the Maori hand games they were fun and I learnt lots about Matariki and I can't wait till next year to do this again
                                                       Kia ora

Here is Lucky teaching us knuckle bone levels

Here is when we were learning the Matariki  game hey tuma tuma

Bread instructions/bread recipe.

Did you know that in the olden days people made bread on rocks?
What's your favourite kind of bread?

In bread science we made bread. we didn't do it for fun we did it to learn as well. I learnt that in the olden days people made bread on rocks. there are different kind of flour in different kind of breads. Also I learnt that yeast makes bread rise. when you let the bread cure yeast makes it rise. Something that challenged me in making the dough was to get  the right amount of the ingredients and (stirring) it without the mixture going out of the bowl. I am proud of my dough because it was really delicious when I  ate it and me and my buddy Ellee worked hard on getting everything right by reading the instructions.

INGREDIENTS:

1 TBsp of sugar
1 1/3 cups of flour
1 heaped teaspoon of yeast
1 teaspoon of oil
½ cup of warmish water (NOT HOT!!!)
That’s what you will need to make bread

  1. Combine the flour, sugar and yeast together in a bowl but slowly and carefully
  2. Pour warm (NOT HOT) water in the bowl when you have finished the dough then carefully add in the oil
  3. Check that your dough is sticky enough if it is to dry then add more water.
  4. Mix for 5 minutes
  5. Spray the bench with cooking spray then put the dough onto the bench or spray baking paper then put the dough on it.
  6. Knead the dough briefly until your dough is smooth or doughy enough just knead for a little bit.
  7. Shape the dough in the shape you want your bread to be
  8. Place your dough on a tray when you have done that cover it with baking paper again then cover with a towel. Let it rise for 25 minutes
  9. Turn on the oven to 172 degrees.
  10. Let your dough rise for 25 minutes put it in the oven
  11. Bake your bread for 25 minutes or till it is golden just keep checking it.
VIOLA YOU HAVE YOUR BREAD!!!!!!!

PARK VALE SCHOOL ART

In Tortara Hub we are doing some kind of art that looks like this.
I learned that you have to do a vanishing point and the overlapping to blend the colours.
We did this and we had to  make the art go into the distance.
I think I did OK and it was a silver level. Then at the top is the sky and a beach kind of bit.
We could chose to do what ever color we wanted to do just not BLACK!!!
It was really fun to do.
Something that challenged me was trying to do the footpath smaller
and smaller  and make it go into the distance.
I am proud of my art because
it took a long time for me to do and get all the colors in the right place like trying to get it
dark to light I nearly did one wrong but I went over it and solved the problem.
On the third hill there is a tiny little house and on the second little hill there is to
cool little trees's because they get smaller as they go in the distance.
Art is one of my favorite kind of subjects in school but writing is my first.
It was kind of hard to get all of my art all blended but I loved Mrs hill's art way better though
I put a lot of determination into my art.

Tortara learning

In Toratara we are doing science and we did bread, milk and mold.I did bread. What we did was we are going to make bread. Also were learning what you use to make bread one of them are yeast, wheat, flour, water, milk that's all I can remember. We have not started making the bread yet because we are doing some experiences on stuff we use to  make bread. One if the things we did was we put flour in a bowl and miss Jacket called someone out to come and just feel the flour and it was me so I had to explain how it felt>flour feels really soft that's how I could explain it.Then I had to wash my hands well miss Jacket put salt mixed in with the flour. Then she put salt in it then I had to see if it felt anything different. The answer to that was kind if no kind of yes it just felt bumpy.Another thing we did with bread was we got a special tip of lollies and in a bowl we put water in then we put the lollies  and we had to guess what would happen.I guessed that they would stay up and just fizz up.WRONG I was kind of right but wrong they sunk to the bottom and they started to fizz up.My favorite part was when Mrs jacket did a fun experience when she  got corn flower and water she put corn flower in her hands then she got 2 tea spoons of water then she put them in her hands and mixed water and corn flower together with her fingers. Then yay we got to do it but she put the stuff in our hands. It felt really really goey though but when its was out fir a bit and well we were just mixing it around with our hands

Basketball

Room 3,2,4 are learning to do basketball.
We learnt how to dribble the ball and throw in a basketball way.
Basketball was one of our learning experiences so we learnt a lot of things from basketball. You can always learn new stuff in any sports you do. Here is some of the games we played.
One of the games we played were on the court there were 2 long even lines
and we were numbered 1 to another number. Then the basketball teacher would yell out a number and the number that they called would of been the match to a person who was that number. Then they would have to run up to get a ball from in the circle in the middle. Then they would run to the person at the back of the  line  then thy would throw it to that person they are throwing it to then they would throw it back to the person who got called out. We were learning to use target hands in this game.
We were learning to bounce the ball Like proper basketball players dribbling. The basketball teacher called it spider hands that's were you bounce the ball so your finger tips are bouncing the ball. Also we were learning to do cross over's with the ball which is when you bounce your ball  one way to the other way. Basketball was really cool and one of my favorite kind of sports to do because I do ne
tball and swimming.

Basketball is fun if your a champion or if your learning. When your learning how to do basketball you get to do fun games and learn a lot of new stuff..If you start playing basketball for years and years you can turn out to be a famous basketball player. If you don't play basketball you should definitely give it a try.The reason why you should start playing basketball is
because it's really fun and you get learn lots of really fun games and skills. The thing I love about basketball is shooting hoops and learning lot of fun new games.Something that challenges me in basketball is looking up and dribbling the ball without it rolling away from me it happened quit a lot though. So you dont bump into anyone and so the appointment doesn't steel the ball from you
